SHORT HISTORY OF  THE ATHLON POLYSPORTS SOCIETY

Our Polysports Athlon society was founded in 1988 with the help of wrestlers and lovers of wrestling free style sport, who having reached an end to their career  were faced with the problem of how to pass on their experience as athletes to younger and enthusiastic generations  .

So modestly  and in respect of those sport’s qualities that correspond to words such as friendship humbleness honesty rectitude and sacrifice, we have joined our forces and created the Polysports Athlon.

The national federation F.I.L.P.J.K granted us the Sport’s palace “Sassari’s Gymnasium” situated at via Prati and from that day we started working, what more can an old wrestler ask. for !!

We participated in all competitions according to the federal athletic activity’s calendar ,on both regional and national levels, receiving our first medals .

Since our foundation year we helped to promote and diffuse a sport such as wrestling, thus we organized all regional contests. In 1995 we organized in Sassari the first absolute Italian championship of wrestling free style and during the same year we gave rise with a lot of sacrifice to the first edition of the international tournament of wrestling free style

“ city of Sassari” .

This competition is considered to be  the only international tournament of wrestling free style in Sardinia, and the second one in Italy, this sport event has been included  in the calendar of the international wrestling federation of the F.I.L.A.

Our society considers itself satisfied because of the following results attained

a)                  The diffusion of a sport such as wrestling in the city of Sassari and in the regional territory,

b)                  We are  divulgating wrestling and running a centre of  sport’s training, exclusively on a voluntary basis and oriented towards young students that come from families living in poor and difficult conditions all this is put into practice  in agreement with the counsellor of  sport and social services of the Municipality of Sassari .

c)                  We have celebrated ten years of athletic activity in the presence of the  mayor of Sassari together with the Municipality’s administration and other authorities, where we displayed our outstanding collection of medals obtained from year 1988 to 1998 through our participation in men’s and women’s championships (all classes included ), wining 49 medals divided into :12 gold medals, 17 silver medals, 20 bronze medals, and in the last four yearly Olympic games the Polysports Athlon has held the 15^th position as a society in the general national classification.

d)                  The international tournament of wrestling “city of Sassari” has become proudly known to all international wrestling federations, and has become also an annual appointment for big wrestlers that come to Sardinia  from many countries, and the tournament plays also an active role in promoting Athlon and the city of Sassari to the whole world .

Today our society is welcomed by everybody due to this important occasion that testifies our  continuous commitment through these years, and we hope to increase more and more the number of those who would like to practise our sport.

I wish to thank all public authorities, the Region  of Sardinia , the Province of Sassari ,the Municipality of Sassari , the C.O.N.I , the National Federation FIJLKAM, the FIJLKAM Sardinian Regional Committee, and all those young people who through their commitments have contributed to the consolidation of our society .

We send them all our hopes and our wishes of  a “good job “ in sport’s, in life and in friendship.
